Heart is IU basketball, not Ego

home again in good ol' greenfield. I just read an article in the indy star talking about how finally, despite the losing season, IU basketball finally LOOKED like iu basketball. And imagine that..it's what i've been saying all. god. damn. season.

Play the guys with heart, not the guys with ego. It is unacceptable to play people when they have a bad night. sign of a bad coach.

i, personally, think that maybe davis isn't just now realizing what he's done wrong...but he's seeing what fans have been screaming at him for the past few months. That bracey wright and pat ewing jr are ball hogs. we've been saying it since midnight madness in october. here are some interesting quotes from the article:

"IU looked and felt like IU basketball is supposed to look and feel. The Hoosiers may have lost to a streaking Illinois team Friday, closing down IU's worst season since 1969-70. But for two games, at least, they played with passion and intelligence."

"All because Davis finally figured out he was destroying his credibility -- and his team in the process -- by continuing to play underachievers while burying the likes of Mike Roberts, Ryan Tapak and Mark Johnson. Too often, he was slow to hold his big-time recruits accountable for fear of losing them. Ultimately, he lost the whole team, and the whole season."

"He spent too much of this past season complaining about his team's lack of execution and basketball IQ, and spent too little time doing something about it. He needed to sit the Bracey Wrights and Marshall Stricklands from time to time. He needed to make sure they understood the way they were playing was unacceptable, that there would be consequences."

From a different article:

"A.J. Moye has expressed concern several times this season about his Indiana University teammates not giving the effort needed for the Hoosiers to be successful."

"Moye said he was proud of the way players such as Johnson and Tapak represented IU during the conference tournament. Johnson combined for 29 points in the two games. Tapak had 13 points and 14 assists. They battled, Moye said. They played with heart."

Heart is what IU basketball is all about. :)
